Frequently Asked Questions
What’s therapy like?
The psychotherapeutic relationship offers a unique opportunity to be heard, seen and received in an environment without judgement and in complete confidence.
Sessions last for one hour and are held weekly on the same day and at the same time.
How do we start?
I offer a free introductory session where we can meet, go through any questions you might have and get a sense of whether working together feels right. You may wish to reflect on our meeting and perhaps meet with other therapists to get a sense of where you feel best placed before making a decision.
How long will I need?
If and when you reach a decision to work together, we agree to meet for an initial six sessions. This time will help me understand more about you, what we are facing, and for you to start feeling supported.
On the sixth session we will have an informal review, where we decide if it feels right to continue. These ‘reviews’ are a helpful way to check progress and re-focus where necessary.
The nature of Core Process Psychotherapy tends to be longer term work. However it is your choice as to how long you stay and this very much depends on the material you wish to explore.
Why are the sessions weekly?
It is important that we work together on a consistent basis. This regular weekly rhythm is a foundation of therapy and creates continuity to the work. It provides consistency and holding for your process.
In person or online?
In person
I am in the process of moving practice, so am not able to take new ‘in person’ clients at this time. I do have online availability and welcome enquiries.
Online
I regularly experience the very real, clear connection and benefit available through online work. This is something we can speak further about in our introductory meeting.
How much will it cost?
My time is charged between £80 to £120 per hour.
The session fee we agree upon varies in accordance with your location and personal position.
I do offer lower cost therapy, however please be advised that availability is currently limited.
What if I need to cancel a session?
As I commit a regular, scheduled time and space for our sessions, I require one weeks notice for cancellation. After this, the full charge for my time still applies.
What does an accreditation with the UKCP mean?
The United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy holds the national register of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors, listing those practitioner members who meet exacting standards and training requirements.
